Flash player 8 sneak preview

Kevin Lynch gave a demo (more like a sneak preview) of the next generation Flash player (codenamed Maelstrom) at the 2004 Flash Conference in Tokoyo - which Colin Moock captured bits of on video. It looks fantastic, in particular i'm excited about the new type rendering engine "saffron" (we currently suffer from some serious text rendering limitations), and apparent huge performance improvements (vector to bitmap caching! bring it on!). Macromedia keeps amazing me :-)



Chapter 11 of Richard Bejtlich's (of TaoSecurity) book "The Tao of Network Security Monitoring, Beyond Intrusion Detection" is now online. It's not the most interesting chapter in the book, but there is more planned. This is the man who convinced me to experiment with Snort :-)

On a sad note, Pat Helland's blog entry is the first blog entry which has made me want to cry (as well as rush off home and hug my wonderful wife, and give thanks to God for my blessings). We're all blessed more than we can ever know... me with a son like this:
