A Camera, a theft, and a moral

lost camera: camera unlost, but not quite found.
Judith lost her (expensive, including all her photos on memory cards) camera while on holiday in Hawaii. A Canadian couple found it and reported their find, but now are unwilling to return it because "their son has been using it for a week, really loves it and they can't bear to take it from him". Judith got her photos back (on CD) - but not the camera or memory cards. Terrible moral example for sure, and as Judith says "I am out $500 and some measure of faith in humanity"... 294 comments on the original post and counting (also posted to Boing Boing, and spreading wildly across the blogosphere).

that is so screwed up, as a canadian i feel shamed. do you know where this person is located?

Don't feel ashamed, as one of the commenters pointed out, you shouldn't let this reflect on all Canadians. We know most of you are cool :-)

Nobody aside from Judith knows where the alleged thieves live... she is making the right choice (in my mind) not to publish their details online, and to pursue her own route... at least she isn't giving up.

421 comments on the original article now... lots of outrage there.
