Happy 1st birthday my son. I am proud and blessed to have been your dad for a whole year (it seems like only a few weeks ago that you were only 6 months old).
I will never forget:

You laughing in your sleep, and the way the silliest little things make you laugh out loud

The way you hug your mom

How you clap hands whenever anyone says “clap handies”, or when you get excited

How you learned to “fake laugh” to entertain your audience – and in particular, laughing at the congregation when we held you up in front at Church for everyone to sing happy birthday. Little crowd pleaser.

How terribly guilty I felt when you burnt your hand on the iron, and how i would have done absolutely anything to stop your heartbreaking sobbing on the way to the clinic. As your mom said, we would have happily taken the pain ourselves if we could. At least you got excellent service – the three nurses dropped their current patients, and rushed to your aid :-)

Listening to your vocabulary and pronunciation steadily improve, and recognising your first real applied words (kitty, teddy, tessie, dadee, touchee)

Your confidence growing when it comes to standing by yourself, and taking your first experimental steps. You can walk – you just don’t believe you can yet.

How you love bathtime, and try to climb into your bath when you hear the running water. You love playing with the tap when its turned on, spraying water all over the bathroom :)

How lucky we all are that you haven’t been sick – that you are a healthy, happy child. Your parents got Flu badly, but you carried on as normal (only happier, because both your parents were at home for a week :)

I can’t wait to see how you and the world changes as you grow up. You won’t ever know a world without Google or for that matter the Internet. You will probably find it hard to imagine a world where everyone isn’t in direct contact with almost everyone else (your parents grew up without Cell phones and Internet communications – real dinosaurs). We’ve made you a time capsule, and hopefully it will remain intact. Your birthday party is this Saturday – pics will be posted as usual :-)
Happy birthday, little Caleb. We love you.
